Denver ties record high temperature for August 19

Record High Temperatures

As expected, temperatures across the Front Range climbed toward record-setting territory today and the Mile High City tied the 21 year old record high.

As measured at Denver International Airport, Denver’s high temperature today hit 99 degrees. That tied the old record high for the date set in 1998.

Here in Thornton, we matched that 99 degree reading at 1:49pm.

Denver sets record low temperature for May 22

The calendar says spring but the temperature would make you think otherwise as cold temperatures set a record this morning.

The National Weather Service reported that Denver’s temperature dropped to 30 degrees at 2:55am. The broke the record low for the date of 32 degrees last set in 1930.

Thornton matched the reading at DIA with a low of 30 degrees as well.

Denver records coldest May 21

Record Cold Temperatures

Brrr! Just a bit chilly out there and one for the record books as a result.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the low temperature today dipped to 31 degrees. This ties the record low for the date set in 2001.

Additionally, the high temperature today only topped out at 39 degrees. This sets a record for the coldest high temperature for the date, besting the old record of 40 degrees set in 1891.

Here in Thornton, we also saw a low of 31 degrees but did warm up more than the airport with a high of 44 degrees.

THE COLORADO CLIMATE CENTER AND NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BOULDER HAVE DETERMINED THAT NEW RECORDS HAVE BEEN SET FOR NON-THUNDERSTORM WIND SPEED AND LOW SEA LEVEL PRESSURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT DURING THE HISTORIC BLIZZARD OF MARCH 13 2019.

Denver sets two cold weather record temperatures in two days

Record Cold TemperaturesWe may have changed the calendar to March but it seems like we are receiving weather more common for January. The bone-chilling cold of recent weeks has continued and the Mile High City set two temperature records in as many days.

Yesterday, as measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw a high temperature of only 6 degrees. This easily broke the record for the coldest maximum (high) temperature for March 3rd. The previous record was 14 degrees set in 1978.

Thornton was slightly warmer yesterday with a high of 8 degrees.

Also of note, yesterday’s low temperature reading in Denver of -6 degrees, while not a record low for the date, was the coldest temperature reading in March since -7 degrees was recorded on March 2, 1960.

This morning, the mercury at DIA dropped to -5 degrees. That bested the record low temperature for March 4th of -3 degrees last set in 1978. Similarly, Thornton saw a low of -5 degrees.

Warmer weather is on its way but the warm up will be slow as the Arctic air and snow cover lingers. For what lies ahead, see the extended weather forecast here.

Denver sets record low temperature for October 15

Record Cold TemperaturesWe are set to enjoy a warm up this week but before we do that, Denver set its second record cold temperature reading in the past 24 hours.

Yesterday the Mile High City saw a record low maximum temperature. This morning, the mercury plunged to a new record low for the date.

According to the National Weather Service, Denver’s official low temperature this morning, as measured at Denver International Airport, dipped to 18 degrees.  This set a new record low for the date beating the previous record of 20 degrees set in 1970.

Here in Thornton, we matched the DIA number with a low of 18 degrees coming at 3:19am.

Denver sets new record low maximum temperature for October 14

Record Cold TemperaturesThe potent storm system that impacted us Saturday night through Sunday brought some snow but the most notable feature was the cold.  In fact, it was record setting.

The National Weather Service reports that the high temperature for Sunday, October 14 was only 27 degrees.  This absolutely destroys the old record low maximum for the date of 36 degrees set in 1969.

Here in Thornton, we saw our high reading just a touch warmer at 28 degrees.

Monday morning will see the temperature plunge and likely bring a record setting low as well.  After that, we do expect to see a gradual warming trend through the coming weekend.

Denver ties record high for September 13, second high temp record of the week

Record High TemperaturesAnd down goes another record! We didn’t expect it to get quite as hot as it did but Mother Nature gave the mercury a little extra push into record-setting territory today.

Denver’s official high temperature, as measured at DIA, came in at 96 degrees today.  This tied the record high temperature for September 13 set in 1990 and 1895.

Here in Thornton, we were just a touch cooler as is the norm with a high of 94 degrees.

This is the second high temp record of this week as summer continues to hang on.  Two days ago, Denver broke the record high for September 11.

We wish we could say we were done with the 90+ degree readings for the season but that does not appear to be the case.

Currently it looks like we will be at or a bit above the 90 degree mark through Monday.  It may be the end of next week before we see any appreciable cooling.  Check out the extended forecast here.

Denver sets new record high temperature for September 11

Record High TemperaturesWe said this morning it was a possibility and sure enough, the record high for today’s date was broken.

The National Weather Service reports that Denver’s official high, as measured at DIA, hit 93 degrees this afternoon.  That tops the old record of 92 degrees set in 1951.

Here in Thornton, we fell short of the mark, likely due to afternoon cloud cover reaching us before it did the airport. Our high came in at 91 degrees at 12:44pm.

Believe it or not, we may see another record or two fall before the end of the week.

Tomorrow’s high is forecast at 94 degrees, the same as the record high for the date. Thursday’s record high of 96 is not likely to be broken but we could come within a couple of degrees.  Friday and Saturday’s record highs are both 92 degrees and we may come very, very close to those marks.

Check out the extended weather forecast here.
