While it may be the first day of meteorological autumn, Mother Nature isn’t giving up on summer yet.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City hit a high temperature today of 99 degrees. This breaks the previous record high for the date of 98 degrees set in 2019.
Here in Thornton, we bested Denver by one degree with a high of 100 degrees.
Not only did the heat impact the daytime, it kept things quite warm in the night and morning setting two records for the date.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s low temperature for August 21 was 72 degrees. This was easily warmer than the previous record high minimum for the date of 67 degrees set in 1946 and previous years.
During the day, Denver saw an official high temperature of 99 degrees. This bested the previous record high temperature for the date of 97 degrees set in 2007 and previous years.
Here in Thornton we experienced similar conditions. Our low temperature dropped to only 70 degrees, much warmer than normal. We also were a touch warmer with a high of 100 degrees for the day.
Mother Nature isn’t giving a lot of relief at night from the daytime heat and as a result Denver set a record.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s low temperature for today was only 69 degrees. This is a good bit warmer than the previous record high minimum of 67 degrees set in 2020.
Thornton virtually matched that reading with a low of 66.5 degrees.
Along with a few days of summer-like heat, nighttime temperatures stayed quite warm for this time of year as well. In fact, they were extraordinarily warm today.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s low temperature today was only 55 degrees. This sets a new record warm minimum for the date, breaking the old record of 53 degrees set inn 1932.
Thornton stayed even warmer with a low of 59 degrees soon after sunrise.
And another high temperature record bites the dust in Denver today.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s temperature topped out at 85 degrees. This easily bested the previous record high for the date of 79 degrees last set in 2018 and is the second day in a row with a record high.
Here in Thornton, we again topped Denver’s mark with a high of 87.5 degrees.
After a long stretch of largely below normal temperatures, spring popped up in a big way today delivering summer-like temperatures that broke records.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s temperature topped out at 85 degrees. This easily bested the previous record high for the date of 80 degrees last set in 1982.
Here in Thornton, we topped Denver’s mark with a high of 86.9 degrees.
More heat is on tap as we are likely to set a record high tomorrow as well.
The warm weather records just seem to keep continuing to fall. Yesterday, Denver set another record high and a record low minimum.
As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw the mercury top out at 99 degrees. This easily bested the old record high for September 7th of 95 degrees set in 2013.
Additionally, the low temperature reading yesterday at the airport of 66 degrees set a record low minimum for the date. That easily bested the previous record of 63 degrees set in 1938 and previous years.
Thornton was again just a bit warmer during the day yesterday, recording a max of 100 degrees. This was Thornton’s seventh 100 degree reading of the year. Conversely, we were a good bit cooler than DIA with a low of 59 degrees.
With the heat, one would hope for relief at night and in the early mornings. While it has cooled some overnight, it has remained unusually warm.

Looking ahead, the 90+ degree weather looks to stick with us through the weekend. There are indications however, thankfully, that a cool down arrives for the start of next week.
