{"id":8906,"date":"2012-09-10T07:52:04","date_gmt":"2012-09-10T13:52:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/?p=8906"},"modified":"2012-09-10T07:52:04","modified_gmt":"2012-09-10T13:52:04","slug":"nasa-image-spacewalking-astronaut-touches-the-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/astronomy\/nasa-image-spacewalking-astronaut-touches-the-sun\/","title":{"rendered":"NASA image: Spacewalking astronaut \u2018touches the sun\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While they are viewed by the public these days as routine, there can hardly be a more dangerous \u2013 or thrilling \u2013 task for an astronaut to perform than a spacewalk.\u00a0 The imagery captured by these modern day explorers is nothing short of amazing as seen in a photo of NASA astronaut Sunita Williams seemingly touching the sun during a spacewalk last week.<\/p>\n<p>During an extravehicular activity (EVA) aboard the International Space Station, Williams and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Aki Hoshide performed much-needed maintenance and repairs to the orbiting platform.\u00a0 During the six-hour, 28-minute spacewalk Hoshide captured an image of Williams appearing to reach for the sun at one point during the EVA.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-jh-UGlifMVY\/UE3uCfke5kI\/AAAAAAAAHLo\/5Ul20HSdp34\/s800\/2012-09-10_073932.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, Expedition 32 flight engineer, appears to touch the bright sun during the mission\u2019s third session of extravehicular activity (EVA) on Sept. 5, 2012.
