{"id":51,"date":"2008-01-31T05:41:07","date_gmt":"2008-01-31T12:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/?p=51"},"modified":"2008-09-30T19:31:57","modified_gmt":"2008-10-01T01:31:57","slug":"fast-moving-storm-dumps-15-of-snow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/thornton-weather\/fast-moving-storm-dumps-15-of-snow\/","title":{"rendered":"Fast Moving Storm Dumps 1.5&#8243; of Snow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/images\/snow2.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Snow!\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"45\" height=\"42\" align=\"left\" \/>Much to everyone&#8217;s surprise, what was forecast to be not much more than a dusting of snow turned into quite a bit more.\u00a0 In Thornton from about 6:00pm to 7:00pm we saw 1.5&#8243; fall very quickly with near blizzard conditions for that brief period.\u00a0 Much of the Denver metro area saw more snow than that, primarily west of I-25 and south of I-70.\u00a0 Not far from us Broomfield reported 3.4&#8243; and Federal Heights 3&#8243;.<\/p>\n<p>Why did this storm offer more than predicted?\u00a0 Here is what 7News&#8217; meterologists offer:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Computer models had shown little if any snow across Denver.\u00a0 However, instability in the atmosphere provided enough juice for a convective-type snowfall.\u00a0 Reports of thundersnow came from southwest Denver near Chatfield State Park as a result of the instability early Wednesday afternoon.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This type of snow is called CSI, Conditional Symmetric Instability.
