in many areas according to the <a href=\"http:\/\/avalanche.state.co.us\/\" title=\"Colorado Avalanche Information Center\">Colorado Avalanche Information Center<\/a>.\u00a0 This was highlighted yesterday when a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.9news.com\/news\/article.aspx?storyid=83902\">27 year old man was killed<\/a>\u00a0just outside of Vail in an area known as the East Vail Chutes.\u00a0 This is the second avalanche death of the season, the first being on December 2nd in Larimer County.\u00a0 In the most recent case, these skiers had done everything right including having avalanche beacons but that was not enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/avalanche.jpg\" title=\"Avalanche Danger - 01\/05\/08\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/avalanche.jpg\" title=\"Avalanche Danger - 01\/05\/08\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/avalanche.jpg\" title=\"Avalanche Danger - 01\/05\/08\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/avalanche.jpg\" title=\"Avalanche danger as of 01\/05\/08\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/01\/avalanche.thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Avalanche Danger - 01\/05\/08\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Everyone who intends to ski or hike in the high country, particularly\u00a0outside of established areas, needs to be aware of the danger avalanches pose.\u00a0 Recent weather has made the conditions ripe for these events.\u00a0 The Forest Service National Avalanche Center points out that nearly all avalanches that involve people are triggered by the victims themselves or a member of their party.\u00a0 The good news about that is that means that education can help to reduce the number of accidents we see each year.\u00a0 To learn more, please see:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&#8211;
