Check here to learn what new features have been added lately.\u00a0 If you have a suggestion for a new feature or changes you would like to see, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/contact.php\">please contact us and let us know<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>12\/24\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not directly weather-related but added live video feeds provided by NASA. \u00a0Both are available from the Almanac &gt; Astronomy &amp; Space menu on the left.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/nasa-tv-live-stream.php\">NASA TV live feed<\/a> &#8211; This is NASA&#8217;s television channel providing coverage of what the space agency is doing.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/nasa-iss-live-stream.php\">ISS live feed<\/a> &#8211; Live video from the International Space Station. \u00a0Live video of specific tasks being performed by the astronauts is shown or oftentimes live video from the station&#8217;s exterior cameras.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9\/14\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The map on our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/river-heights-co.php\">Northeastern Colorado River Heights and Flood Status page<\/a> was not working due to changes in the feed from the\u00a0Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service. \u00a0The page has now been updated and incorporates an interactive map. \u00a0It also displays river heights and flood status for locations across northeastern Colorado. \u00a0You can find the page in the Almanac menu at the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9\/11\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We noticed our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/nws-weather-event.php\">Record Weather Event page<\/a> that is fed from data from the National Weather Service was not working properly. \u00a0This was due to some changes by the NWS. \u00a0We have fixed this now and you can always check to see what recent record-breaking weather we have experienced by selecting the Denver \/ Boulder office from the drop down on the page. \u00a0The page itself is under the Almanac \/ National Weather Service menu on the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9\/1\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Some much-needed behind the scenes work. \u00a0The computer that powers all of our weather equipment &#8211; the station software, radar, lightning detector, website, etc &#8211; was on its last leg. \u00a0It served us well for 5 years and it was time to go. \u00a0This weekend we replaced the computer with a brand new one with far more computing power. \u00a0The upgrade will allow us to continue to bring you the best local weather information and news in Thornton.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>8\/12\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Due to changes in the way the U.S. Geological Survey formats its data, we updated our earthquake pages. \u00a0The new pages now use a Google map to display recent temblors. \u00a0We also have two earthquake pages now: One for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/earthquakes.php\">quakes within a 500 mile radius of Denver<\/a>, and one for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/earthquake-global.php\">all earthquakes globally<\/a>. \u00a0You can find the pages in the Almanac menu on the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7\/14\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes to our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/live-weather-2.php\">Live Weather Gauges page<\/a>. Gauges are a bit bigger and easier to read, we added a wind rose, the scrolling text display now shows the forecast and at the bottom you can select different units of measure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6\/27\/13<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We changed our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/webcam.php\">west facing webcam<\/a> orientation pointing it a bit more vertical. \u00a0This will allow a better view of the skies above while still maintaining perspective of nearby trees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>9\/2\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ve updated our monthly tables for Denver&#8217;s &#8220;Normals, Means &amp; Extremes&#8221; and &#8220;&#8221;Top 10&#8243; Precipitation &amp; Temp&#8221;. \u00a0You can find them under the Almanac menu on the left then go to Climatology &amp; Records. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/denver-climatology.php#month\">You can also click here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Some time ago we added a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/weathernationtv.php\">WeatherNation TV page<\/a> that allows you to view broadcasts from the network live on our site. \u00a0Now we have added a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/video-news.php\">National &amp; International Video News page<\/a> with the latest from NDN&#8217;s providers including CBS, AP and many more. \u00a0It is available under Area Information to the left and then select Video News.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>7\/3\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The National Weather Service changed their forecast pages and that necessitated changes of our page as well. \u00a0While the basics are the same, we took the opportunity to do a bit of an upgrade. \u00a0The page will automatically display the forecast for Thornton as always but now there is a dropdown menu that allows you to easily grab the forecast from more than a dozen other cities across Colorado. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/forecast.php\">Click here to check it out<\/a> or select &#8216;NWS 5 day forecast&#8217; from the Forecasts menu on the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6\/13\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We already have a number of ways to view current weather conditions locally and from across the globe &#8211; see the Live Conditions menu at the left. \u00a0One new page we added expands on that and provides conditions from Denver area METAR stations. \u00a0METARs are permanent weather stations, oftentimes located at airports, that report current conditions in a standardized format (<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/METAR\">click here for details<\/a>). \u00a0Our METAR page reads data from locations like Denver International Airport, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, Buckley Air Force Base and a number of other locations and provides their reported weather conditions in an easy to view format. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/metar.php\">You can access it from the Live Conditions menu on the left or by clicking here.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6\/12\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our Lightning Detection Center pages are among our most popular during severe weather season. \u00a0We have just added a new page that uses StormVue NGX to display lightning activity. \u00a0Using Flash, the display gives you the ability to zoom in and out, set alarms, choose what type of strikes to display and much more. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/lightning-stormvue2.php\">You can check it out here or find it in the Lightning menu to the left.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>6\/10\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For anyone that reads our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/\">news section<\/a> or views or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ThorntonWeather\">Facebook page<\/a>, you are well aware of our fondness for satellite imagery. \u00a0The &#8216;eyes in the sky&#8217; can provide an amazing view of weather and disasters. \u00a0We have added two new pages that allow you to view some of the most amazing imagery:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0NOAA Environmental Visualization Laboratory Image of the Day provides images on a wide variety of topics from weather to climate. \u00a0We have a new page that allows you to easily view the IOTD. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/noaa-image.php\">You can find it here or in the Almanac menu to the left.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>NASA satellites and spacecraft of course take amazing imagery as well, many of which are curated by the Earth Observatory. \u00a0We now feature the Natural Hazards and EO Image of the Day on a special page. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/nasa-iod.php\">You can find it here or in the Almanac menu to the left.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><!--more-->3\/4\/12<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With severe weather season approaching and a major tornado outbreak having occurred in recent days, we did some related work on the site. \u00a0Both of the pages mentioned can be accessed from the Severe Weather menu item on the left.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/tornado-stats.php\">Tornado Season Statistics page<\/a> received a major revamping. Graphs for tornado counts to date as well as historical information for the United States was added.<\/li>\n<li>From 1950 to 2010 Adams County saw 156 tornadoes, the fourth most of any county in the United States. \u00a0Weld County just to our north is the #1 county in the nation. Not movies, not dramas.\u00a0 When you want weather, this is the place to watch it. \u00a0 We have created a page with a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/weathernationtv.php\">live feed of WeatherNation TV<\/a>. \u00a0You can access it in the Forecasts menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>12\/2\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With winter weather arriving regularly now, school and business closures become more frequent. \u00a0We have created a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/school-closings.php\">School &amp; Business Closure page<\/a> that will let you know if the kiddos have school today or not. \u00a0The page is available under the Winter Weather menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10\/22\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Get ready to hit the slopes! \u00a0We have updated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/colorado-ski-report.php\">our Snow and Ski Report Page<\/a> with reports from OnTheSnow.com. \u00a0This new interactive page allows you to view conditions not only in Colorado but across the United States and the globe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>10\/10\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Just in time for winter weather, we have enhanced some of our related pages and added some new ones.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First up is a completely revamped <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/winter-briefing.php\">Winter Weather Briefing page<\/a>, your one-stop shop when the weather turns wintry.\u00a0 From the latest weather warnings to radar, webcams, and links to other related pages on ThorntonWeather.com, it has it all and is the go to source when the snow flies and the mercury drops.<\/li>\n<li>Two new winter weather related pages have been added:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/forecast-snow-probability.php\">Snow probability forecasts from the HPC<\/a> give you a look at the chances for snowfall in Colorado.<\/li>\n<li>Also new is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/snow-analysis-maps.php\">Snow Analysis page<\/a> which gives you details on recent snowfall for the U.S. and Colorado as well as total snow coverage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Lastly, if you look at the main menu to the left, you will notice a dedicated Winter Weather menu item.\u00a0 Within are links to the most common related pages for the season.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5\/22\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>With severe weather season upon us, we have created a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/severe-briefing.php\">Severe Weather Briefing Page<\/a>. \u00a0This page serves as a &#8216;one stop shop&#8217; for everything related to severe weather in our area. \u00a0At a glance you can see current watches and warnings, radar, lightning activity and other related imagery. \u00a0Clicking on any will take you to the appropriate page dedicated to that data. \u00a0The page also contains links to all the relevant pages on ThorntonWeather.com related to severe weather. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/severe-briefing.php\">You can click here to go to the page<\/a> or you can find it in the Severe Weather menu to the left. \u00a0When severe weather strikes, this is the page to check out!<\/li>\n<li>The Storm Prediction Center is the National Weather Service&#8217;s main division for issuing and disseminating severe weather information. \u00a0We have pulled together all of the images and data from the SPC into one location on our new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/spc-main.php\">SPC Main Page<\/a>. \u00a0From severe weather outlooks to storm reports and fire weather outlooks, this page links to all of the relevant information. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/spc-main.php\">You can click here to go to the page<\/a> or you can find it in the Severe Weather menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>5\/7\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Courtesy of the Weather Underground, we have incorporated their &#8216;Wundermap&#8217; in two places.\n<ul>\n<li>First is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/wundermap-radar.php\">Wundermap radar<\/a> which provides an interactive way to view the radar. \u00a0You can pan and zoom the radar not only for Thornton but for the entire nation. \u00a0You can find the Interactive Radar in the Radar &amp; Maps menu to the left.<\/li>\n<li>Second is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/wundermap.php\">Wundermap current conditions<\/a> which displays current conditions from personal weather stations like ThorntonWeather.com for the Denver area but again, also for the entire nation. \u00a0You can find the Wundermap conditions in the Live Conditions menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>4\/20\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/warning-map-national.php\">National Weather Warning Map<\/a>. \u00a0Much like the northeastern Colorado warning map we added recently, this map provides a clickable map but now for the entire nation. \u00a0By clicking on a location you can get current weather watches and warnings for anywhere in the country. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/warning-map-national.php\">You can click here to go to the page<\/a> or you can find it in the Severe Weather menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>3\/12\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have added a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/weather-warning-archive.php\">Weather Alert Archive page<\/a>. \u00a0This new system will archive all of the weather advisories and warnings received in the Thornton area. \u00a0As the database grows, it will provide a handy reference for looking back to see what types of severe weather occurred on a given day. \u00a0You can access it from the link above or by going to Almanac on the menu to the left then Thornton Weather Data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2\/26\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/warning-map.php\">New Severe Weather Summary page with clickable watch and warning map<\/a>. \u00a0This new page is a tremendous resource for not only viewing watches and warnings here in Thornton but also across Colorado and the nation. \u00a0You can click on the map to view pertinent information for any location. \u00a0Interested in the severe weather for another spot in the nation? \u00a0Select the National Weather Service office location from the drop down and you can view that too. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/warning-map.php\">You can click here to go to the page<\/a> or you can find it in the Severe Weather menu to the left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2\/20\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Flooding in northeastern Colorado is a very real threat in the spring and summer having claimed many lives in our history and causing millions of dollars in damage. \u00a0We have created a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/river-heights-co.php\">Northeastern Colorado River Heights and Flood Status page<\/a> to allow you to check the status of major rivers in the region. \u00a0The latest levels as well as the flood status for the South Platte River, Cache La Poudre River, Big Thompson River, Clear Creek, Bear Creek, South Boulder Creek and St. Vrain Creek are all available. \u00a0You can access it from the link above or by going to the Almanac menu to the left and selecting &#8216;River Heights.&#8217;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>2\/12\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ve created a new interactive graphs page that allows you to retrieve data from any day, month or year since ThorntonWeather.com went live.\u00a0 You can mouse over a given time and it will display the detailed statistic for that time and you can even zoom in on a period of time.\u00a0 The new Detailed Graphs page can be accessed from the Almanac menu to the left and then go to Thornton Weather Data.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/graphs-wunderground.php\">You can click here to go straight to the page<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Modified the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/weather-warnings.php\">Weather Warnings \/ Watches page<\/a> to display the northeastern Colorado warning map.\u00a0 This provides a good overview of any active warnings in the region.<\/li>\n<li>Modified the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/rmwn.php\">Rocky Mountain Weather Network page<\/a> to display the list of stations to the right of the map.\u00a0 This way you don&#8217;t have to scroll so far to view the conditons below that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>1\/16\/11<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A totally new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/satellite-imagery.php\">satellite imagery page<\/a>.\u00a0 There is now a much wider variety of satellite image types and regions.\u00a0 The main page allows you to select a region, including northeastern Colorado.\u00a0 From there you are presented with an animated satellite display with a number of color enhancement options.\u00a0 Most notably you can select various overlays including counties, roads, current conditions, radar and much more.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/satellite-imagery.php\">Click here to take a look<\/a> or you can find the link in the Radar &amp;
