{"id":16421,"date":"2016-05-09T05:17:03","date_gmt":"2016-05-09T11:17:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/?p=16421"},"modified":"2016-05-09T17:11:06","modified_gmt":"2016-05-09T23:11:06","slug":"may-7-2016-eastern-colorado-tornadoes-rated-at-ef-2s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/severe-weather\/may-7-2016-eastern-colorado-tornadoes-rated-at-ef-2s\/","title":{"rendered":"May 7, 2016 Eastern Colorado tornadoes rated at EF-2s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Tornado.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2856\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-2856\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Tornado.jpg\" alt=\"Severe weather more typical of June than late September hit Colorado yesterday.\" width=\"302\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Tornado.jpg 302w, https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Tornado-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/Tornado-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 302px) 100vw, 302px\" \/><\/a>Severe weather struck the plains of Colorado on Saturday spawning multiple tornadoes.\u00a0 The two most powerful of these, one near Wiggins and another near Wray, have been rated EF-2s on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.<\/p>\n<p>Damage and injuries from both twisters were relatively light, certainly not as bad as they could have been.<\/p>\n<p>The tornado west of Wiggins crossed I-76 and traveled nearly 9 miles reaching 3\/4 of a mile wide at one point. \u00a0It ripped through a private campground at Empire Reservoir damaging and destroying multiple RVs.\u00a0 There were some minor injuries with the storm.<\/p>\n<p>Further east, near Wray, multiple tornadoes were reported, the most significant of which damaged three residences and businesses near the town\u2019s borders.\u00a0 It traveled about 8 miles and at its widest was 440 yards across.<\/p>\n<p>Three other tornadoes were confirmed near Wray although they caused no damage and were rated EF-0s.<\/p>\n<p>Below is some amazing video of the tornado near Wray.
