{"id":16110,"date":"2016-02-04T07:42:17","date_gmt":"2016-02-04T14:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/?p=16110"},"modified":"2016-02-04T07:42:17","modified_gmt":"2016-02-04T14:42:17","slug":"january-2016-weather-recap-average-temperatures-just-a-bit-drier-than-normal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/thornton-weather\/january-2016-weather-recap-average-temperatures-just-a-bit-drier-than-normal\/","title":{"rendered":"January 2016 weather recap: Average temperatures, just a bit drier than normal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>January 2016\u2019s weather was notable for only one thing \u2013 its lack of anything notable.\u00a0 All in all the month failed to produce anything particularly dramatic.\u00a0 While it was just a bit dry, it wasn\u2019t by much and temperatures came in right near normal.<\/p>\n<p>Only three periods of snowfall occurred during the month.\u00a0 The heaviest of these was on the 7th and 8th but it only amounted to a few inches.\u00a0 High and low temperatures failed to produce any extremes either.\u00a0 We had a few mild days but also lacked extreme cold with no days dipping below zero.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/thornton-weather\/january-2016-top-shots-monthly-photo-slideshow\/\">January 2016 top shots: Monthly photo slideshow<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Thornton\u2019s average temperature for the month came in at 30.5 degrees.\u00a0 This was just slightly below Denver\u2019s long term January average of 30.7 degrees.\u00a0 Officially, the Mile High City\u2019s average was warmer than ours at 31.8 degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Temperatures in Thornton ranged from a high of 68.5 degrees on the 30th down to a low of 1.1 degrees on the morning of the 1st.\u00a0 Denver saw a maximum of 65 degrees on the 30th and a low of 5 degrees on the 10th.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of precipitation, we recorded 0.34 inches in Thornton.\u00a0 Out at the airport, Denver was wetter with 0.50 being recorded by their bucket.\u00a0 The January average for Denver is 0.41 inches.<\/p>\n<p>While we did see some snow during the month, no single storm was extraordinary and monthly totals came in below normal.\u00a0 Average for Denver during the month is 7.0 inches.\u00a0 Thornton saw 5.3 inches of the white stuff while Denver was just a bit behind at 4.6 inches.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/climatedataout12016.html\">Click here to view Thornton\u2019s January 2016 climate report<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/-V4KICa8xUuM\/VrNiIWW1DII\/AAAAAAAADic\/5XAY7OAS7-k\/s560-Ic42\/2016-02-04_072429.jpg\" alt=\"Thornton, Colorado's January 2016 temperature summary.
