{"id":14287,"date":"2014-09-04T13:24:55","date_gmt":"2014-09-04T19:24:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/?p=14287"},"modified":"2014-09-05T06:33:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-05T12:33:03","slug":"august-2014-weather-recap-thornton-sees-cooler-than-normal-temps-near-normal-precip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/thornton-weather\/august-2014-weather-recap-thornton-sees-cooler-than-normal-temps-near-normal-precip\/","title":{"rendered":"August 2014 weather recap: Thornton sees cooler than normal temps, near normal precip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Periods of monsoonal moisture contributed to rain and clouds in August 2014.\u00a0 Coupled with the occasional cold front, the end result was a month that saw temperatures below normal and regular daily thunderstorms.<\/p>\n<p>Thornton\u2019s average temperature for the month came in at 68.2 degrees.\u00a0 This was more than four degrees cooler than Denver\u2019s long term August average of 72.5 degrees.\u00a0 Out at Denver International Airport it was similarly cool with an average reading of 70.6 degrees.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/blog\/thornton-weather\/august-2014-top-shots-monthly-photo-slideshow\/\">August 2014 top shots: Monthly photo slideshow<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Temperatures in Thornton ranged from a high of 94.4 degrees on the 17th down to a low of 47.6 degrees on the 30th.\u00a0 Only six days saw readings of 90 degrees or higher.<\/p>\n<p>Denver\u2019s warmest reading of 91 degrees occurred on the 17th and again on the 19th.\u00a0 Low readings of 52 degrees were seen on four days during the month.\u00a0 Four 90 degree days were recorded at DIA.<\/p>\n<p>In terms of precipitation, Thornton measured 1.55 inches in the rain bucket over the course of the month.\u00a0 This was slightly below Denver\u2019s August average of 1.69 inches.<\/p>\n<p>The airport however fared better with 2.73 inches as many of the afternoon storms didn\u2019t really get started until they were past Thornton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thorntonweather.com\/climatedataout82014.html\">Click here to view Thornton&#8217;s August 2014 climate report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 580px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/-tJThBOSOGaw\/VATGtYv_RZI\/AAAAAAAAC_U\/Vd_M3H1m7nY\/s580\/2014-August-Temp.jpg\" alt=\"Thornton, Colorado's August 2014 Temperature Summary.
