(DU)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Snow at the Centennial State\u2019s elevations can occur any time of year and last night Mother Nature delivered a white reminder that fall and winter are not far behind.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the Colorado Department of Transportation closed the road to the top of Mount Evans due to the potential for snowfall.\u00a0 That potential was realized overnight last night as the observatory webcam this morning \u00a0showed a couple of inches of snow on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>This morning <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cotrip.org\/m\/rcDtl.xhtml?id=5195&amp;rd=171&amp;scroll-pos=0\">CDOT\u2019s website reports<\/a> the road is, \u201cClosed from Summit Lake to top of Mount Evans due to adverse conditions. There is no estimated time of opening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The highest paved road in North America, the road to the summit of Mount Evans usually remains open until the first weekend of October when conditions prevent it from being maintained.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t reopen until the Friday before Memorial Day.<\/p>\n<p>Other areas of the high country saw light doses of snow last night.<\/p>\n<p>At 8:20pm last night <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NWSBoulder\/posts\/999527003408992?fref=nf\" target=\"_blank\">the National Weather Service reported<\/a> that 13,495 foot high Berthoud Pass was reporting 34 degrees.\u00a0 Moderate snow was falling and visibility had been reduced to 1\/2 mile.<\/p>\n<p>Snowfall above timberline will be possible tonight with potential accumulations of 1 to 2 inches in some locations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>Stay up to date with the dynamic weather:\u00a0Be sure to \u2018like\u2019 us on\u00a0<a style=\"color: #3c6491;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ThorntonWeather\" data-bitly-type=\"bitly_hover_card\">Facebook<\/a>, follow us on\u00a0<a style=\"color: #3c6491;\" href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/ThorntonWeather\" data-bitly-type=\"bitly_hover_card\">Twitter<\/a>\u00a0and add us to your\u00a0<a style=\"color: #3c6491;\" href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/102594403520791765288\" data-bitly-type=\"bitly_hover_card\">Google+<\/a>\u00a0circles<\/em><\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Snow at the Centennial State\u2019s elevations can occur any time of year and last night Mother Nature delivered a white reminder that fall and winter are not far behind.
