Thornton’s weekend starts chilly, sees a brief warmup, then turns cold with snow

Friday, October 23rd, 2020 5:02am MDT

A little bit of a weather rollercoaster ahead for us over the three day period. Friday will be chilly but calm, Saturday sees a rebound then a relatively significant front moves in offering cold temps and snow Sunday into Monday.

For today, mostly cloudy skies will be with us this morning then we should see some break up of the coverage in the afternoon. Highs today will be on the chilly side topping out only around 40 degrees. Tonight, partly cloudy skies will be above with overnight lows dipping to the mid-20s.

Saturday will be the warmest day of the weekend. Look for highs in the low to mid-60s under mostly sunny skies. Winds will be becoming breezy in the late afternoon as a cold front begins to push through.

Saturday night, the front arrives and with it winds will continue to be breezy and lows will drop into the teens. Some light rain may be seen Saturday evening and perhaps some snow after midnight.

Sunday sees the storm system arrive in earnest. Look for cloudy skies with high temperatures only climbing to the low 20s. Snow can be expected throughout the day Sunday and overnight into Monday morning.

As for accumulations, 2 to 5 inches does seem plausible, much depending on the final track and configuration of the system. We would not be surprised to see a Winter Weather Advisory issued later today or tomorrow.

Have a great weekend!
