Update, 12/12/09, 7:15am – The weather report for Thornton’s WinterFest continues to look great. Temperatures at 10:00am today will be around 32 degrees but warming to a high of 48 degrees by about 2:00pm. Partly sunny skies overhead should provide a little bit of solar warmth too but it will be a bit breezy with 10mph winds.Â
For the start of the evening festivities temperatures at 7:00pm will be in the neighborhood of 30 degrees and will drop to 27 by 9:00pm. That breeze will be continuing unfortunately which will drive wind chill temperatures to the low 20’s so be sure to bundle up.Â
If you can make it to tonight’s concert, you really should. The Thornton Community Band is outstanding group and puts on a great show!Â

Original post, 12/11/09, 5:14pm - Thornton’s annual winter celebration WinterFest gets started tonight and runs through Sunday.  Most of the events will be held outdoors at the multi-purpose fields next to the Carpenter Rec Center. In some years in the past the weather has proven troublesome for the event but 2009’s edition should go off without a hitch.Â
Tonight the event gets started at 6:30 when Santa and Mrs. Claus arrive at Santa’s Village. The weather will be chilly but more than tolerable if you are bundled up properly. Down on the field, look for temperatures to be about 28 degrees with a light breeze at around 2mph.Â
Between then and when the event wraps up for the night at 9:00pm, look for temperatures to slowly drop to 26 degrees. Winds will be picking up slightly so it will be cold on any bare skin. Be sure to bundle up!Â
For tomorrow, outdoor events start at 10:00am and thankfully the weather will be the warmest we have seen in a week. At the start look for temperatures around 35 degrees increasing to a high of 47 degrees right about noon, lasting until 2:00 when things will start to cool down. Winds will be a touch breezy throughout the day and evening between 8 and 10 mph.Â
The holiday concert starts at 7:00pm Saturday evening and look for the thermometer to read 34 degrees right about then, dropping to 31 by 9:00. A breeze will make it feel a bit cooler than that with wind chill temps in the mid 20’s.
Sunday’s events start in the evening beginning at 5:00pm and it will be slightly warmer than Saturday. The temperatures will be 41 degrees at the start dropping to 31 by 9:00. Like Saturday, it will be a touch breezy with winds from 8 to 10 mph and wind chills temperatures starting at 32 dropping to 23.Â
All in all it looks like a great weather forecast for WinterFest! Get out with your family and have some fun. Hope to see you there!Â
