UPDATED, 11/18/08 @ 1:00pm – It’s official – Denver has broken the record high temperature for today, November 18th.  Previously set in 1995, the old record of 74 degrees was broken at 11:52am when the mercury hit 75.

How much higher will it go today?  We are going to say 78 but it could go even a degree or two higher.  As we said earlier today, the all time high November temperature is 80 degrees so that is within reach.

…RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE BROKEN…

At 1152 AM MST the temperature at Denver International Airport reached 75 degrees.  This establishes a new record high temperature for the date.  The old record was 74 degrees set in 1995.  The temperature is likely to go higher in the next couple of hours. We could possibly reach the all time record high temperature for November which is 80 degrees set on November 8th 2006.

————————

A beautiful day today with potentially record setting warmth!  An upper level ridge of high pressure is pushing across Colorado and bringing with it some great weather.

Today the thermometer will climb to a high near 78 degrees which puts us well into record setting territory.  The record high for today, November 18th, is 74 degrees – set in 1995 – and it looks like we will smash that record.  For all of November the record high temperature is 80 degrees set on November 8, 2006 and we could even come close to touching that record as well, particularly in the urban corridor.

With the warmth, some potential for wind and the lack of precipitation lately, conditions are bordering on tinder dry.  This is enough of a concern that National Weather Service forecasters are keeping a close eye on conditions and have considered issuing Red Flag Warnings for some areas.   Even without a warning please be aware of the dry conditions.  As we have seen in California in recent days, it doesn’t take much for a small fire to grow into something much larger and more dangerous.

Looking into the rest of the week, the warmth won’t hold for too long.  With some low level cooling, Wednesday’s temps will drop to around 67 degrees which is still 17 degrees warmer than normal.  Wednesday night and into Thursday though the picture changes quite a bit.  Moisture will increase across the area with a chance of freezing drizzle after midnight Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.  Thursday things cool down noticeably with high temperatures reaching only the upper 30’s / lower 40’s so enjoy this warm weather while it lasts!
