Thornton’s December 2022 wintry blast sets records

Record Cold Temperatures

That’s a wrap! The Arctic blast is slowly on its way out and in its wake, we can see that we set a number of records.

ThorntonWeather.com has been in operation for 16 years and this cold was one for the books.

  • The 67.3 degree 24 hour temperature drop from Wed PM (52.7 degrees) to Thu AM (-14.6 degrees) was the biggest of the past 16 years
  • The -14.6 degrees low temp on 12/22/22 ties lowest temp recorded in the past 16 years (2/2/2011)
  • The 0 degree high temp 12/22/22 is the record low maximum temperature recorded in the past 16 years (old record was 1.9 degrees on 2/5/14)
  • A 31.1 degrees wind chill on 12/22 at 8:35am is the coldest wind chill temperature recorded in the past 16 years

For Denver, officially, some marks were set / tied as well.

  • The high temperature of -6 degrees on 12/22/22 ties for the 10th coldest high temperature on record. It also is a new record low maximum for the date, breaking the old record of -5 degrees set in 1983.
  • The low temperature of -24 degrees on the morning of 12/22/22 ties for the 8th coldest reading ever recorded in Denver.
  • The average temperature for 12/22/22 of -14 degrees ties for the 5th coldest daily average temperature recorded in Denver.

Denver breaks two more warm weather records on September 7

Record High Temperature

The warm weather records just seem to keep continuing to fall. Yesterday, Denver set another record high and a record low minimum.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw the mercury top out at 99 degrees. This easily bested the old record high for September 7th of 95 degrees set in 2013.

Additionally, the low temperature reading yesterday at the airport of 66 degrees set a record low minimum for the date. That easily bested the previous record of 63 degrees set in 1938 and previous years.

Thornton was again just a bit warmer during the day yesterday, recording a max of 100 degrees. This was Thornton’s seventh 100 degree reading of the year. Conversely, we were a good bit cooler than DIA with a low of 59 degrees.

Record high minimum tied for September 6

With the heat, one would hope for relief at night and in the early mornings. While it has cooled some overnight, it has remained unusually warm.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the low temperature today was 67 degrees. This ties the record high minimum for the date set in 2020.

Thornton was a good bit cooler with a low of 59 degrees.

Denver sets record high temperature for September 6

Record High Temperature

The heat is on and the records have begun to fall. Today Denver set a record high temperature and it likely is only the first of at least a few records that will fall in the coming days.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s high temperature today topped out at 98 degrees. That just tops the previous record high for the date of 97 degrees set two years ago in 2020.

In Thornton, we were actually a slight bit warmer with a high of 99 degrees.

Denver tops record high temperature for August 11

We have been having to post way too many high temperature records lately. Here is yet another.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City topped out at 98 degrees today. This tops the old record high for August 11 last set in 2020.

Here in Thornton, we matched that with a 98 degree high as well.

Looking ahead, the 90+ degree weather looks to stick with us through the weekend. There are indications however, thankfully, that a cool down arrives for the start of next week.

Denver sets record high temperature for August 5

Another high temperature record and another 100-degree reading for the Mile High City – and Thornton.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the high temperature in Denver today topped out at 101 degrees. That bested the previous record high for the date of 99 degrees last set way back in 1877.

Here in Thornton, we reached a high of 100 degrees, the 7th time this year we have hit 100 degrees or higher.

Denver sets record high temperature for July 18

It was almost a certainty and indeed it did happen. The Mile High City broke the high temperature record for July 18.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the city’s high temperature topped out at 100 degrees today. That bests the previous high temperature for the date of 99 degrees set in 2020 and previous years.

Here in Thornton, we matched the Denver high with our own 100 degree top reading.

Denver ties record low minimum for July 14

With this type of heat, the nighttime doesn’t offer much relief as is seen by the weather record set today.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw a low temperature today of 70 degrees. This ties the record low minimum for the date last set in 1931.

Thankfully, Thornton managed to be a good bit cooler with a low of 63 degrees.
