Denver sets record low temperature for April 13, more records may fall

Record Cold Temperatures

Our spring cold and snow has claimed one record today and may very well break another before the day is over.

As measured at DIA, Denver hit a lot temperature of 15 degrees this morning. That easily breaks the previous record low temperature for the date of 17 degrees set in 1933. Here in Thornton, our low dipped to 16 degrees.

Additionally, the record low maximum for April 13th is 27 degrees, also set in 1933. It is quite possible that we will fail to get that warm and thus set another cold temperature record today.

Tomorrow’s record low is 15 degrees (1933), and with overnight temperatures tonight forecast to dip that low, there is yet another record that may fall.

Record Cold Temperatures

The storm might be over but its effects continue to be felt in the form of very cold temperatures. This morning Denver recorded its coldest temperature ever for October 31.

In the pre-dawn hours the temperature at Denver International Airport dropped to 7 degrees. This handily bested the record low temperature for the date of 10 degrees set in 1991.

Here in Thornton we were just a bit colder with a low of 5 degrees.

This is the third cold temperature record set in recent days. It follows a record low maximum on the 29th and a record low yesterday.

Record Cold Temperatures

With the snow yesterday also came unusually cold temperatures. Yesterday’s high temperature was the coldest recorded for the date and now Denver has set a record low temperature.

Denver’s official temperature this morning dropped to 3 degrees as measured at Denver International Airport. That broke the record low temperature for October 30 of 7 degrees set in 1991.

Thornton saw similarly bone-chilling cold with a low of 4 degrees this morning.

Today, temperatures are going to run about 40 degrees below normal. Further, there is a good chance we set another record low temperature tomorrow morning. The record low for October 31 is 10 degrees and current indications are we could dip to near 0 degrees.

Denver sets record low maximum for October 29

Record Cold Temperatures

Not only did we receive a healthy shot of snow with this latest storm, we also saw some very cold temperatures. In fact, the first of what could be a few cold temperature records has been set.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s official high temperature today was only 18 degrees. Not only was that more than 40 degrees below average, it also sets a record for the coldest high temperature for October 29.  The old record was 25 degrees set in 1993.

Here in Thornton, we were just a bit “warmer” with a high of 20 degrees.

The record-breaking cold is not done either. There is a good chance Denver sets a record low tomorrow morning and on Thursday morning.

Denver sets record low temperature for the second day in a row

Record Cold Temperatures

Last night temperatures dropped into record-setting territory. This morning that trend continued and set a record low temperature for October 11 as well.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City’s official low temperature this morning was 9 degrees. That absolutely shattered the previous record low temperature for the date of 22 degrees set in 1946.

Thornton saw extremely cold temperatures as well, although not quite as cold as DIA. Our low came in at 15 degrees.

On a related note, yesterday’s snowfall was the first of the season and brought Thornton 3.3 inches of the white stuff.  Officially, as measured at DIA, Denver recorded 1.0 inches.

Friday and the weekend will see us break out of the cold with a warming trend that will see mercury levels back near normal on Sunday. Get the forecast here.

Record Cold TemperaturesWhile our first snowfall of the season had ended, the cold was just beginning.

Just before midnight on Thursday, the temperature at Denver International Airport fell to 13 degrees.

Thornton managed to stay warmer with our low of 20 degrees coming in the morning.

The temperature will continue to drop tonight and into early Friday morning. It starts with record setting cold and now we will wait and see just how cold it gets.

Looking ahead, the weekend will offer up gradually warming temperatures with Sunday returning us to near normal readings.

Denver sets record low temperature for May 22

The calendar says spring but the temperature would make you think otherwise as cold temperatures set a record this morning.

The National Weather Service reported that Denver’s temperature dropped to 30 degrees at 2:55am. The broke the record low for the date of 32 degrees last set in 1930.

Thornton matched the reading at DIA with a low of 30 degrees as well.

Brrr! Just a bit chilly out there and one for the record books as a result.

As measured at Denver International Airport, the low temperature today dipped to 31 degrees. This ties the record low for the date set in 2001.

Additionally, the high temperature today only topped out at 39 degrees. This sets a record for the coldest high temperature for the date, besting the old record of 40 degrees set in 1891.

Here in Thornton, we also saw a low of 31 degrees but did warm up more than the airport with a high of 44 degrees.

Denver sets two cold weather record temperatures in two days

Record Cold TemperaturesWe may have changed the calendar to March but it seems like we are receiving weather more common for January. The bone-chilling cold of recent weeks has continued and the Mile High City set two temperature records in as many days.

Yesterday, as measured at Denver International Airport, the Mile High City saw a high temperature of only 6 degrees. This easily broke the record for the coldest maximum (high) temperature for March 3rd. The previous record was 14 degrees set in 1978.

Thornton was slightly warmer yesterday with a high of 8 degrees.

Also of note, yesterday’s low temperature reading in Denver of -6 degrees, while not a record low for the date, was the coldest temperature reading in March since -7 degrees was recorded on March 2, 1960.

This morning, the mercury at DIA dropped to -5 degrees. That bested the record low temperature for March 4th of -3 degrees last set in 1978. Similarly, Thornton saw a low of -5 degrees.

Warmer weather is on its way but the warm up will be slow as the Arctic air and snow cover lingers. For what lies ahead, see the extended weather forecast here.

Denver sets record low temperature for October 15

Record Cold TemperaturesWe are set to enjoy a warm up this week but before we do that, Denver set its second record cold temperature reading in the past 24 hours.
