Discovery Channel's Storm Chasers

Just announced!  The Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers second season will premiere on Sunday, October 19th.  For those that haven’t seen this show before, it is absolutely incredible as you follow a group of chasers trying to – literally – drive into a tornado.  As you know, the 2008 tornado season was one for the record books and the Storm Chasers team was right in the thick of it.  I will be watching with great interest as they spent a lot of time in north central Kansas right where my family is from.

Storm Chasers Return to Tornado Alley!

New season premieres Sunday, Oct.19 at 10 p.m. E/P

Following up on their successful 2007 season, the Storm Chasers are back with new vehicles, new teams and new tactics. The 2008 tornado season nearly set a record for tornado outbreaks and our determined band of chasers pulled out all the stops to break their own records for intercepts. Sure there were challenges, but with double the number of chase vehicles — and much more mobility and range — the Storm Chasers got the job done like never before.

You don’t want to miss the fierce — but mostly friendly — competition for the most tornado encounters that develops early in the season, as the newest chaser, Reed Timmer pits his light and loose style of chasing against the heavyweight, methodical approach of Dr. Josh Wurman and his team. Plus, the baddest chase machine around, the 8-tonned, 10-wheeled TIV2, makes its debut as extreme filmmaker Sean Casey continues his quest for the ultimate IMAX intercept footage. And best of all, you’ve got a front-row seat to some of the most awesome tornadoes ever captured in HD.

So strap yourself into that armchair and join the chase with Storm Chasers, only on the Discovery Channel, Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT starting Oct 19.

EPISODE 1 – Oct. 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
With a record-breaking tornado season already underway, Josh and Sean race to get the new DOW6 and the bigger, badder Tornado Intercept Vehicle, TIV2, on the road. Reed, meanwhile, has been chasing for weeks, already surviving a harrowing near miss and a hailstorm that takes out the TVN’s windshield. The DOW and TIV finally get out the gate, but it’s the SCOUT team that faces the first big challenge — a dangerous night chase.

EPISODE 2 – Oct. 26 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Both the TIV2 and new DOW torment their crews with mechanical problems. Aaron and Danny in the SCOUT head out on their own only to get clobbered by a massive storm. Reed and the TVN crew chase down a monster as it bears down on the town of Lamesa, Texas but not before they narrowly avoid being struck by lightning.

EPISODE 3 – Nov. 2 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Missed sightings and vehicle problems heat up the contest of wills between Sean and Josh. Reed and his fast-moving crew make a brief rendezvous with Sean and the TIV sparking a little envy and a brief mutiny. Reed chases a risky night-time tornado into the dangerous hills of Arkansas, while Sean and Josh return to Greensburg, Kansas one year after an EF-5 nearly wiped that town off the map.

EPISODE 4 – Nov. 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
Halfway into the season, TIV1 returns to action, and the whole team heads first toward Oklahoma and then into Arkansas. Monster hail storms batter the fleet, but the vehicles forge ahead as tornadoes start touching down all across this part of the Great Plains. Everyone gets to feast on the tornado bounty, but after dark, a twister chases the chasers in the streets of Stuttgart, Arkansas.

EPISODE 5 – Nov. 16 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
The DOW team is in chaos after a broken radar array sends Josh scrambling to fix it. Reed jumps on the opportunity to scoop the science team once again, while Danny and Aaron struggle to escape a ditch before a tornado closes in on them.

EPISODE 6 – Nov. 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
With the DOW and all the chase vehicles up and running again, the team finds themselves hunting in the same territory as the rival TVN crew. Tornadoes are forming all over western Kansas on what looks like the biggest day of the season.

EPISODE 7 – Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT
Reed and Josh’s teams struggle to find the perfect storm in Nebraska. Reed’s girlfriend Jene gets lost in a deadly hailstorm while the DOW fleet mistakenly drives into an oncoming tornado.

EPISODE 8 – Dec. 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT
As tornado season comes to a close, Sean has one last chance to get the shot of all shots from inside a tornado. Meanwhile Reed pushes his team to the edge, getting closer to a twister than ever before.
