Thornton’s weekend starts very hot but will see a significant cool down later

Friday, July 19th, 2019 4:44am MDT

Hang in there, folks! While Friday will offer heat pushing toward record-setting, the rest of the weekend promises cooler temperatures and possibly some precipitation.

For today, the record high for the date is 101 degrees set in 2005 and that is also our forecast high. There will be sunny skies above for the most part with just a few clouds in the afternoon. Tonight, skies will be mostly clear with lows to the mid-60s.

On Saturday, a cold front pushes in from the north and that will bring a welcome change. Highs tomorrow will be in the mid-80s with some scattered thunderstorm activity. Overnight Saturday into Sunday morning, lows will drop to around 60 degrees with a chance for some showers.

The cool down continues on Sunday. High temperatures will be in the upper 70s and there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms for much of the day.
