Thornton’s weekend starts out very windy, will end calm and mild

Friday, January 17th, 2020 5:49am MST

Our dry weather will continue through the weekend but the period starts with a pretty significant wind event. Once that passes, things will calm down and cool down.

For today, mostly sunny skies will be above throughout the day. Temperatures will be mild with highs in the low to mid-50s aided by downslope winds. There is just a slight chance to see a bit of a rain shower around mid-day due to the instability. Those winds will be the major story of the period as a High Wind Warning will be in effect. Gusts from 40 to 60mph will be possible from late morning into tonight. Overnight, winds will finally ease by sunrise with lows near 20 degrees.

Saturday will be a very seasonal day with high temperatures near the average for the date of 44 degrees. Winds will be calmer and mostly clear skies above. Saturday night into Sunday morning it will be partly cloudy and lows dip again to the low 20s.

Sunday looks to be the most pleasant day of the three day period. We will enjoy mostly sunny to sunny skies, calm conditions, and high temperatures around the 50 degree mark.
