Thornton to enjoy a mild day Wednesday but a wintry blast arrives tonight

Wednesday, October 9th, 2019 5:22am MDT

Hopefully you have been enjoying the warm weather and have all your pre-winter chores done. Today gives us one last mild day but an approaching cold front is going to turn things around considerably.

Mostly sunny skies will be above throughout the day with overall calm conditions. Some breezy winds will be seen in the afternoon. Highs today will climb to near the 80 degree mark.

This evening, winds and clouds will be increasing as the cold front pushes through. Expect those blustery winds to last through tomorrow.

A few light sprinkles of rain may be seen after dark with chances increasing after midnight. A transition to snow will occur, perhaps a bit of freezing drizzle as well, in the pre-dawn hours.

Most of the coming snow will be reserved for tomorrow morning. Thornton may see an inch or two of the white stuff for the event, perhaps more if we get some banding.

The bigger story is the sub-freezing temperatures that will be with the front. Lows tonight will drop to the mid-20s. A Freeze Warning has been issued and will be in effect from 10:00pm tonight to 9:00am tomorrow.
