The heat finally takes a break Wednesday but thunderstorms will threaten

Wednesday, August 21st, 2019 5:28am MST

Cooler air from the thunderstorms east of us yesterday will help to get our mercury readings close to normal today. Moisture is increasing and that is going to lead to a good chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms as well.

Partly clear skies start us off this morning and then we should see some clearing lasting until the late afternoon. High temperatures today will be in the mid-80s.

Thunderstorms will get started after about 2:00pm with the best opportunity for us coming from 5:00pm until 11:00pm. Some storms will have the potential to turn with heavy rain, large hail and strong winds being the biggest threat.

Tonight, storm activity should be wrapped up by midnight and skies will clear. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s.

Keep an eye on the sky and on our Severe Weather Briefing Page as storms begin to roll.
