Significant snowstorm barrels down on Thornton, conditions to deteriorate throughout the day

Wednesday, April 10th, 2019 5:05am MDT

From the warm yesterday to the storm today. We’ll be following yesterday’s summer-like weather with a winter storm that is going to have a significant impact with snow and wind by the end of the day today.

We start out with partly clear skies but cloud cover will be increasing quickly and we will be entirely cloudy by noon. Wind speeds will similarly be increasing through the morning and early afternoon. By this evenings, gusts in excess of 40 mph are expected.

A few light rain showers may be seen this morning to be followed by a quick transition to snow by about 2:00pm. Moderate snowfall will then be seen through about midnight before tapering off and ending tomorrow morning.

The timing of the snow and wind is going to likely lead to a messy PM commute and conditions soon after will become difficult. Areas to our east on the plains are going to be impacted more than us.

However, here in Thornton, we’ll still get our share of excitement. Look for 3 to 5 inches total accumulation. Should banding develop or this system sit over one spot longer than expected, those totals could go up considerably.

A Blizzard Warning will kick in at noon and run through noon tomorrow.
