Following surprisingly strong snow, temps remain chilly, some showers linger

Tuesday, May 21st, 2019 5:06am MDT

Well, that was a bit of a surprise, eh? Stronger than expected upslope and convection combined with cold temperatures aloft generated a healthy 3.3 inches of snow in Thornton overnight. Today, showers will gradually taper off but temps will be nearly 30 degrees below normal.

Cloudy skies are going to again be the rule today. We should see some easing in the cover by late afternoon / early evening. Light rain / snow showers will be seen this morning, coming to an end by noon. No additional accumulations are expected. A few isolated showers may linger this afternoon.

Temperatures today will top out in the low to mid-40s. The average high for today’s date is 73 degrees.

Tonight, mostly cloudy skies will be above with low temperatures dropping to near freezing
