Ah yes, January, that month where our famously highly variable weather conditions oftentimes bring wind. That will be the case today as while it remains relatively mild, it is going to blow.
In terms of temperatures it will be cooler today but still a bit above normal. Look for Thornton’s high temperature to top out in the upper 40s. We will have partly sunny skies above throughout the day and dry conditions.
The real story is going to be the wind. Look for it to start picking up this morning and then peak by mid-afternoon. Gusts between 35 and 40 mph will be possible in our area, up to 80 mph n the foothills where a High Wind Warning will be in effect.
It will remain blustery through tonight and tomorrow. How that wind affects today’s NFL playoff game between our Denver Broncos and the San Diego Chargers could be interesting.
Looking ahead we see little relief from the dry conditions. This week we expect to see overall temperatures at or above normal and no real chance for precipitation. The latest long term outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center point to more of the same through the extended period out 14 days from now.
The one good thing is that while eastern Colorado is dry, the mountain snowpack continues to accumulate. The high country has seen a good bit of snow this season and is in fact going to get pounded again today and tonight.
