Snowstorm set to deliver powerful punch with heavy snow, strong winds

Saturday, March 9th, 2013 6:41am MDT

Almost exactly on cue our March snowstorm arrived early this morning.  In less than three hours Thornton recorded 2.6″ of snow with much more forecast (click here for our latest snowfall measurement).

Look for the snow to continue throughout the day before starting to taper off around 4:00pm.  Accompanying the snow are going to be strong winds with gusts to 35mph possible.

The heavy snow coupled with the winds are going to create hazardous driving conditions, particularly this afternoon.  If at all possible just stay home today and enjoy the view of the snow from the comfort and safety of your house.

When all is said and done, Thornton should see snowfall totals in the 8 to 12 inch range.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 5:00pm for Thornton and the Denver metro area.  To the east a Blizzard Warning will run until 11:00pm.
