Summer isn’t over yet but after the record-setting heat we have experienced, it is very easy to long for cold temperatures and snow.  AccuWeather.com released their initial winter outlook for 2012 – 2013 and it does hold some hope for the moisture starved Colorado high country.

The initial outlook from AccuWeather primarily discusses the impact to the eastern United States.  However the accompanying graphic shows a large area of forecasted ‘above normal snowfall’ stretching from the Sierra Nevada into the western half of Colorado.

Company forecasters say that a weak to moderate  El Niño is expected to arrive by the fall helping to bring moisture to the area.  They offer the forecast with a caveat however saying, “It should be noted that no two El Niños are the same. The strength of this phenomenon can mean a great deal for winter weather.”

Given the lack of snowfall in the Colorado high country last season, just about anything would be an improvement. The dry conditions brought an early end to the ski season this year and aided the many, disastrous wildfires that torched parts of the state in recent months.

Certainly it would be nice to have the entire state receive its fair share of snow for once.  Keep your fingers crossed!

If this doesn’t come true for the east coast, let alone the mid atlantic, I’m gonna be mad.

here in the mid atlantic, after 2 long years snow droughts since the snow winter of 2009-2010, we are overdue for a good snowy one, so I hope this winter outlooks comes true. Because If we go through another mild, winter, I’m gonna go nuts here lol
    But seriously.
