Asteroid 2012 DA14 will pass extraordinarily close to Earth on Friday, within 17,200 miles of the planet. In discussing the massive rock hurtling by Earth, one CNN anchor yesterday inexplicably tried to link the celestial event with terrestrial global warming. If you thought last year was warmer than normal the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says you thought correctly. Last week the ice in the Arctic reached its seasonal lowest point with a measurement that made it the lowest since 1979. Scientists announced yesterday that Arctic sea ice had completed its summer melt and in the end reached the lowest extent since satellite measurements began.
